Welcome


  

Our mission is to offer a warm welcome to both the newcomer and established resident of greater Winston-Salem, and invite them to join Newcomers & Neighbors. The club provides wonderful opportunities to develop new and  lasting friendships.

Each month we hold a meeting that features a program and/or a speaker. In addition, each month or quarterly, we offer activities to enjoy and group meetings to attend, consisting of women with common interests.

May General Meeting

Program: Southern Social Potluck Luncheon

  

The May program will be a Southern Social Potluck Luncheon with games and activities. 

General Meeting: 10:00 – 10:30 am 

Southern Social: 10:30 – 11:15 AM

Games and activities for member interaction. 

Potluck Luncheon: 11:15 – 12:00 PM  


 
 



April General Meeting

Program: How Not To Get Hacked


  

Kay Tatum, co-owner of Performance Dimensions, an IT company, will present the program, “How Not to Get Hacked.” It will uncover ways hackers try to gain access to your personal information that is located on your desktop or laptop computer, iPad, and phone. She will show you ways to determine:

-if a link in an email message is legitimate

-if your friend or acquaintance really did send you that email

-how to tell if text messages on your phone are spam

-if Norton, your antivirus software, has really "renewed” (is it spam?)

-if you purchased a new iPhone or something very expensive from PayPal (is it spam?)

Program: RiverRun International Film Festival

Speaker: Mary Dossinger


The RiverRun International Film Festival is a non-profit cultural organization in Winston-Salem, dedicated to the role of cinema as a conduit of powerful ideas and diverse viewpoints. Its mission is to foster a greater appreciation of cinema and a deeper understanding of the many people, cultures and perspectives of our world through regular interaction with great films and filmmakers. While the nine-day festival is its largest and most visible platform to reach audiences, RiverRun also presents several year-round screening programs which include RiverRun Retro; RiverRun Arts; the free ITVS Indie Lens Pop-Up Series in partnership with PBS North Carolina; and our free education initiative – Films With Class. RiverRun will be celebrating its 27th anniversary this year.

Program: Chinese New Year

Speaker: Eileen Lynch


Chinese New Year 2025: Based on the lunar calendar, every year is connected to one  of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac. 2025 is the Year of the Wooden Snake. This  is a time for family reunions, special food, music, and celebrations that last for several  days. It is also a time to honor ancestors and share good wishes for the new year. .

Program: Family Services Forsyth

Speaker: Rebecca (Becca) Essick, Campaign Coordinator


In the January meeting, we will welcome Becca Essick who will inform us about Family Services of Forsyth County.  Family Services is a non-profit organization serving Forsyth County (NC) by providing professional services and participating in partnerships that foster the development of children, advance the safety, security, and success of families and individuals, and help build a sustainable community.  Family Services works collaboratively with government, education, other non-profit organizations and citizens to solve our community's complex social problems.  Family Services works to help children, families and individuals make positive lasting changes in their lives; strengthen families; build a healthier, more stable community; and build a better future for all of us.


December General Meeting



The December General Meeting was replaced by the Annual Holiday Party sharing food, friendship and fun.
